Why is it so important that a constitution exist at state and federal levels? What would happen if it only existed at one?
It is important that a Constitution exists on state and national governments because without it everything would be out of order. You need a national Constitution to lay the ground rules for the nation. These are the absolute rules that can’t be broken. From there the states can make their own Constitution. These are the laws specific to that state, and not others. If there was only a national Constitution then then there would be confusion between states. If a rule didn’t apply in one state but did in the other it would be bad. Also only a national Constitution couldn’t cover the small specific laws for local governments. If there was only state Constitutions then there would be no ground rules for all the states. This way one state could have crazy laws the other doesn’t. That is why there needs to be a national and state Constitution.
